As part of my minor thesis work, I helped with the conservation of The outlands by David Haines and Joyce Hinterding, a large time-based media installation work with both sculptural and interactive elements, stored at the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW).
This project required not only creating a traditional condition report, but also a conservation installation, a first for the AGNSW. Doing so involved communcation and collaboration between the Gallery's conservation team, technology team, curatorial team and the artists themselves. The result was very successful. The outlands is now better understood, better documented and will hopefully result in a better reinstallation in the future.
