When I began my work with the Returned and Services League (RSL) LifeCare War Museum in Narrabeen, New South Wales, I assumed it would be a week of standard gallery maintenance and object accessioning in a small regional museum, staffed by volunteers. However, it has blossomed to far bigger things that that.
I have since returned many times and I have done everything from setting up an Omeka online database to designing small exhibits, documenting museum events, creating captions, and conserving museum objects. Yet, it is the relationships with those who live in the RSL and work in the museum that I cherish most about each trip. Their enthusiasm to make their museum the best that it can be, not matter what challenges they face, makes me want to do the same for them.
More information on the museum can be found here, and the Omeka database can be accessed here.
